Longest Day of My Life...but Not Really

So normally I'm totally game to go on a trip with my family, spend some quality time and maybe attempt to rip eachother's heads of in the process. It's all in good fun, and by the end of it we have some pretty incredible memories. Well, I'm sure gonna remember this one courtesy of Denver International Airport, or rather the storm system now dissipating from around it. It starts yesterday with what was supposed to be a three hour layover on the way to Kansas City. Key words: supposed to be. It was kind of long in the first place and we knew it so we had a good dinner in the airport (side note: bread and pasta bowls from Domino's are the bomb). Then we walk the quarter mile down the terminal to hour gate. As we stroll up my dad's phone buzzes. It's the free service from United Airlines notifying us that the 8 o'clock flight will now be at 9, three hours away. So it's now a four hour layover. No biggie, my brother Kolby and I begin people watching. One thing turns to another and next thing we know the gate attendant says that our flight will board at 10 and then 10:15. Finally the flight is bumped to 10:50 and we get notification the airport is on ground hold, which, considering there was some pretty loud thunder and the brightest lightning I had ever seen outside, seemed like a pretty prudent choice. Five minutes from boarding another intercom call informed my family that we would wait until 11:30 to board the plane, which eliminated the chance that we would be able to rent a car in Kansas City when we landed. Pretty soon my siblings and I decided to watch a piece of duct tape go around the automatic sidewalk and see how long it takes to go around; four minutes and thirty-six seconds just in case you were wondering. We are officially one of four flights left in the airport. Midnight rolls around, more delays. Finally at 12:30, the attendant comes on the intercom and directs us to the customer service desk which has a no-joke forty to fifty foot line of people already waiting at it because our flight has been cancelled. Long story short, my family spent last night on the floor trying hard to sleep while airport employees vacuumed around us and the computer bank played phony ad music every fifteen minutes. Needless to say I only slept in fifteen minutes intervals for a fretful two hours. Our flight left at 7 the next morning and the airport gave us no compensation, even lost our checked bag in the process. It was a grand start to a grand vacation. I'll probably post about the rest of the vacation when I get home, just know that it gets a lot better, and that I'm excited for what's in store.

Until next time,
Cam

P.S. AP test scores came in. I'm pleased but know it could have/should have gone better. Of course I'm somewhat of a freak when it comes to grades and test scores and things. Just the way I am.
